Kitty Burri Schachter

       Fine Art

Kitty Burri Schachter was born in New York City in 1953.  Kitty began her career at MacMillan publishing.  She returned to school at William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri with a focus on Fine Art and Equestrian Studies in addition she pursued courses at the University of Missouri with her eye on veterinary medicine.  Circumstances returned her to New York and finally to  Florida which brought Schachter to work in the veterinary field at Wellington Equine Associates, for which she had acted as anesthetist for all surgeries performed.

Schachter was confronted with a major turning point in 1995 when she suffered and recovered from a brain aneurysm.  Her return to health rekindled her long time passion for painting and art making, with a deep seated understanding that she yearned to do that which made her happy.  She returned to watercolor as a medium of expression, studying, painting and showing work locally as well as nationally.

Since 1997, Schachter’s primary mentor has been her friend Sue Archer.  She has supplemented this by studying with Charles Reid, George James, Ted Nuttall, Alex Powers, Mark Mehaffey, Mike Bailey and many others.  She has participated in many juried shows, winning several awards.  Kitty has received the coveted Signature Membership with The Florida Watercolor Society, the largest watercolor state society in the United States.  Her rising celebrity has ensured invitations to teach workshops and give demonstrations at several shows.

Kitty continues to paint for pleasure, entering shows and fulfilling commissions with a new focus on larger format paintings.  Her subjects continue to be inspired by the equestrian community in which she lives and works.

The body of her work is painted with transparent watercolors and 300 lb arches hot press paper treated with acrylic mat medium.  This technique has proven successful in achieving texture and movement in her paintings.  Schachter’s style is influenced by realistic impressionism.

Schachter has  participated in the plein air workshop near Toulouse, France with Janet and Steve Rogers June 2013.

In 2014, Kitty was honored to be juried into the American Watercolor Society Exhibition.
